This Tuesday (2), in a first round vote in the Chamber of Councilors, the creation of a municipal lottery in Belo Horizonte, the BHLot, was approved. The proposal is from councilor Juliano Lopes and, in the first vote, the text was approved by 35 votes to 4.
According to the author of the proposal, BHLot would follow the same process as Loteria Mineira.
The councilor also stated that "there are lotteries like this in Campinas and Fortaleza. It is a project that the city hall of Belo Horizonte manages to collect through its own lottery. These resources go directly to the social fund and are invested in sport and social action," explained the councilor.
"I don't have a forecast because I don't know what the population's adherence will be. It will depend on the city hall's marketing. But I believe that Belo Horizonte [can collect] around R$ 5 million (US$ 1m). It is a perspective," added Lopes.
According to the councilor, the Secretariat of Administration would be responsible for organizing and managing the municipal lottery.
The project needs to be approved in the second round and sanctioned by Mayor Fuad Noman (PSD) for the lottery to be created.
