Federal deputy Ricardo Ayres, holder of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) that investigates allegations of match-fixing in Brazilian football, understands that the measure will prevent illegal practice.
“By focusing on betting on the number of goals and results of matches, we will have a safer entertainment option that is less susceptible to undue external interference,” he defended.
The deputy stressed the importance of regulating sports betting to guarantee the impartiality of referees and the integrity of sporting events as a whole.
“Betting on individual actions can distort the game and encourage harmful behavior. We need to preserve fairness, credibility and transparency in competitions,” he said.
Betting limits
In addition to the project that prohibits betting on individual actions, Ayres presented Bill 2843/2023, which limits the annual amount spent on sports betting to up to 10% of the amount declared in the income tax for the last fiscal year.
“We need to prevent over-indebtedness, ensure the financial health of citizens and prevent addiction to sports betting from becoming a social problem. By establishing a limit of 10% of the value declared in the I.R., we seek to balance the individual freedom to place bets with the need to protect against excessive financial risks,” he concluded.
