After undergoing training from the Olympic Movement Unit for the Prevention of Competition Manipulation, they will support and work directly with the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) and the International Federation of their sport in efforts to prevent actions that harm the “ clean game."
“This nomination comes at a time when, in a way, this issue - the importance of integrity in sport - is in evidence in Brazil. The debate on the regulation of sports betting is ongoing and I believe that, as an athlete and Olympic medalist, I can contribute to this issue. We need to shield the sport from any interference on the field of play,” said Rafael “Baby”, bronze medalist at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the heavyweight division.
“Any action intended to manipulate the results is completely contrary to the sport's ideal of how disputes should be: clean. It is a privilege for me to be able to contribute to this agenda.”
“I understand the size of the mission and accept it with great honor, since working for integrity in sport and against the manipulation of competitions is to defend the essence of sport and the Olympic Movement. I believe it is very important for athletes to be included in the debate on this issue and I have no doubt that we can contribute a lot to the institutions,” said Falavigna, bronze medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the +67kg category.
The Ambassadors of ‘Acredite no Esporte’ (Believe in Sport) are active or retired athletes, coaches or referees who are committed to raising the awareness about the manipulation of competitions. Rafael and Falavigna join Giba, from volleyball, and a number of athletes from other continents in the role of Ambassadors.
