The Public Ministry of Goiás (MPGO) presented a new complaint to the Justice after the second phase of the Maximum Penalty Operation, which investigates manipulation in games of the 2022 Brasileirão Séries A and B, in addition to matches of the State tournaments this year. In possession of the material examined from the search and seizure carried out by the Federal Police, the MPGO even increased the list of denounced and brought new information about how the scheme worked. The information was published on the Veja Magazine website.
Arrested in the first phase of the operation, Bruno Lopez, also known as BL, is named in the complaint as leader of the gang. Another 16 people could become defendants. The Justice of Goiás has not yet ruled on the new request.
Among the players, three more names were included in the investigated list: Fernando Neto, formerly of Operário-PR and currently at São Bernardo; Nikolas, from Novo Hamburgo-RS, and Jarro Pedroso, from Inter de Santa Maria-RS. Previously, defenders Victor Ramos, from Chapecoense; Kevin Lomónaco, from Bragantino; Paulo Miranda, former Juventude; and Eduardo Bauermann, from Santos; left-back Igor Cariús, from Sport; and Moraes, ex-Juventude and now in Atlético-GO; and midfielder Gabriel Tota, ex-Juventude and now in Ypiranga-RS.
The gang's goal was to profit from sports betting. For this, they recruited players and combined with them the commission of fouls and penalties, receiving yellow and red cards, in addition to the number of corners. At least 20 matches are analyzed by the MPGO, which now has access to the amounts paid to athletes. Check below what the complaint, which Veja had access to, says about some of the games.
