Better Collective names former Nike and DAZN executive as Country Manager for Brazil

Better Collective has recruited Terence Gargantini as country director for Brazil to strengthen the group’s presence in South America. The executive brings extensive experience to the position, having previously served as the country director for Brazil and LatAm at ElevenSports.com, a multi-sports streaming platform under the DAZN Group, and Nike, among others companies. This follows the opening of a new office in Rio de Janeiro.

The new addition to the company’s management has been tasked with maintaining momentum and traction in South America, which Better Collective has highlighted as a core area of opportunity and focus.

This follows the opening of a new office in Rio de Janeiro. Gargantini will leverage his experience in South American sports, broadcasting and streaming to achieve Better Collective’s goal of a strengthened presence in the continent.

“I am very excited to join such a great company and tremendous individuals,” Gargantini remarked. “I have much exciting work ahead of me in trying to help lead Better Collective’s South American strategy and operations as well as collaborating on business development efforts in order to continue entry into the legal igaming market in South America, and to enhance Better Collective’s foothold in this exciting region.”

Gargantini’s past experience has included work with the Brazilian national football team and the various state federations of the country’s football ecosystem. This has seen work with prominent South American clubs and athletes, including Brazil’s Flamengo and Corinthians.

Much of this engagement occurred during a decade-long tenure with Nike, six years of which were spent with the US company’s Dutch-based European Headquarters.

Gargantini led a local and global sports marketing strategy for the sportswear group, holding the positions of Sports Marketing Coordinator, Sports Marketing Manager and International Sports Marketing Manager.

Following his career with Nike, Gargantini served as Country Director of Brazil and Latin America at sports broadcaster ElevenSports.com, part of the DAZN Group, and was Business Development Director FanHero, an OTT video platform for influencers.

Better Collective hopes to leverage its new hire’s knowledge and experience of the Brazilian and wider Latin American sports sectors, where the company aims to capitalise on the opportunities of the growing betting industry.

In a presentation to investors after the betting media publisher’s Q1 trading update, CEO Jesper Søgaard asserted that the Latin American sports scene has strong parallels to that of Europe, giving Better Collective confidence in its prospects and ‘clear strategy’ for the region.

Commenting on Gargantini’s addition to the firm’s Latin America operation, Simon Hovmand-Stilling, CEO of Better Collective South America, said: “We are happy to welcome Terence Gargantini to the group. With a keen eye for identifying mutually beneficial partnerships and having a large local network and experience, we know that Gargantini can play an important role in solidifying Better Collective’s South American presence.

“Localisation will be absolutely key for Better Collective in South America. We are already building a strong understanding of the local sports fans so we can be more relevant for advertisers, both local and international ones that seek to establish a presence in this region. And that is why profiles like Terence Gargantini are instrumental in our continued successful expansion.”
