The initiative is by the deputies Alexandre Curi (PSD) and Alisson Wandscheer (Solidariedade). The first meeting was attended by lawyers specializing in the subject.
According to deputy Alisson Wandscheer, everyone has a role in combating match-fixing. According to him, the Government must take measures to prevent the occurrence and act assertively when cases come to light.
“We are going to study what we can do to avoid the problem. The legislation on the subject is federal, but we can work on inspection,” said the deputy.
The lawyers gave an explanation of integrity in sport and betting manipulation. In addition, they presented a timeline dealing with legislation on the subject and the chronology of investigations carried out by the Justice.
“Match-fixing is the biggest challenge in sport in recent decades. In the coming months, we should see an increase in the number of cases and complaints,” predicted lawyer Pedro Gurek.
The specialists also presented possible answers to the manipulation to the parliamentarians. Among them are the contact for international cooperation with other sports entities; educating people, who need to know the rules and the consequences of non-compliance with the rules; the proper punishment of criminals; in addition to prevention and detection measures through the use of artificial intelligence.
Deputies Pedro Paulo Bazana (PSD), Moacyr Fadel (PSD), Matheus Vermelho (PP), Marli Paulino (SD), Tiago Amaral (PSD), as well as federal deputy Toninho Wandescheer (PROS) and councilors from Curitiba Marcelo Fachinello (PSC) and Tico Kuzma (PROS) were also part of the meeting.
Cases
The so-called Maximum Penalty operation, which is in the second phase of the investigation, is commanded by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Goiás, the state where the first complaints arose. According to investigations by the authorities, the number of players involved reaches 26.
According to Justice, players were co-opted to carry out specific events within the games. Among these actions is the receipt of a yellow card. In exchange, they received the money from the bets. In this way, bettors ensured the occurrence of certain events in the matches. With that, they earned money on gaming and betting sites.
