The CPI-FUTE, which investigates the practice of match-fixing in Brazilian football, held another meeting this Tuesday (20) afternoon, to take the testimony of former player Romario, involved with the gang that tainted Brazilian sport.
In the midst of the testimony, the acting president of the CPI, deputy André Figueiredo, said that he was visiting the French Football Federation and that he will take a report to the CPI on what he heard from the entity's directors.
“They now have a national online gaming agency, right? And one of the issues that was banned in France was betting other than on results, whether partial, for the first half, or finals, for the game as a whole. All these yellow card, penalty, lateral and corner bets, the French Federation officially does not recognize and they do not bet on them. And the authority has been overseeing this,” he explained.
Then, he stated that “it is one of the products that we are going to have to take out of this Commission for sure.”
Carreras then stated that "Sportradar provides services to the French Football Federation and numerous other federations, with tools for detecting match-fixing."
“The company will attend. It was Sportradar that said that Brazil is the country where there is the greatest evidence of match-fixing in the world. It is something that is extremely concerning,” Figueiredo continued.
Finally, Carreras recalled that Brazil needs modern legislation for the activity. “Of the G20, only Brazil and Indonesia do not have legal gambling. We need to legalize, collect and have clear laws. We have to create a regulatory agency that has its technological integrity tool.”
About Sportradar, he concluded: “It is on the agenda and within our schedule. Perhaps it will be the next company to come to this CPI.”
Deputy Yuri do Paredão said again, about bookmakers, that they “can discredit Brazilian football. These companies that promote sports betting on football can, yes, discredit our Brazilian football.”
And reinforced: “Mr. President, that's why I'm so keen on that, inviting them, summoning them or bringing them as witnesses. It's bringing the bookmakers, it's bringing these companies to participate in this CPI. In my view, I'm sure they have a lot to collaborate with this CPI, because they are experiencing the daily life of Brazilian football. They are earning a lot of money with Brazilian football. I think they can help us, create regulations, they can help us here,” he concluded.
Regarding the CPI's work plan, Felipe Carreras said that "it can be changed to call the bookmakers, but at the right time and defined by the collegiate."
