BiS SiGMA Americas – Panel "Means of payment"

Financial transaction companies should focus on regulation, users and technology

BiS SiGMA Americas dealt with matters relevant to the Brazilian iGaming market. Among them are payment methods. In the panel “Means of payment as a competitive differential for online gaming operators”, Thiago Tobias (Eightroom and Vpag), led the conversation with Christian Ribeiro (Sulpayment), Leonardo Chaves (OKTO), Leonardo Baptista (Pay4Fun), and Rafael Brunacci (@CoinsPaid).

Christian Ribeiro, CEO of Sulpayment, highlighted that although betting activities are not yet regulated, financial transaction companies in Brazil have regulations that need to be followed with the utmost attention. “Today it is no longer a differential to offer PIX, it is precisely in the regulatory part, in the rule. The means of payment in Brazil already has Central Bank regulation that needs to be followed.”

“So, when the payment method integrates with a gaming platform, it is ideal that it be a payment institution regulated by the Central Bank and audited. Why? The platform is risk free. If the payment method that has a reserve is not doing something wrong for the regulator, the resource is theirs. But if you're doing something wrong, the platform's money gets stuck. Therefore, the competitive differential is not in the PIX, but in the way it is processed,”
he added.

Leonardo Chaves, Country Manager Brazil at OKTO, brought the user into the discussion, stating that a process that is easy for the end customer to carry out also makes a total difference. “From the user's point of view, he wants to know if that process is intuitive and easy. This is so that he does not miss the most important thing, which is the purchase intention. Every retailer, whether in any segment, is always concerned with conversion, with putting the customer's money in. And for the most part, all of his marketing efforts can be lost at the time of sale, at checkout, if he is not well structured, does not have clear communication and, in fact, a technology that works.”

Leonardo Baptista, CEO of Pay4Fun, outlined an overview of what he expects to happen to the means of payment sector when the regulation of sports betting is in force: “Theoretically, the first thing will be for all the payment methods that are there to undergo debugging. The Central Bank will not allow the operation of companies with low share capital and the regulation of sports betting will have a paragraph determining that only institutions authorized and regulated by the Central Bank will be able to operate in the betting sector.”

Baptista raised another question regarding the operation itself after the regulation. For him, “the operator will work with the other verticals. I believe that the houses will continue to operate casino, poker and bingo through the offshores and will have a .com.br business regulated only for sports betting,” evaluated the CEO of Pay4Fun.

Rafael Brunacci, Business Development Manager at @CoinsPaid, said that after PIX, cryptos should be the next big payment method. In addition, he pointed out that this is a very safe currency and that it already has great monitoring.

“As we are talking about licensing and regulation, it is worth noting that today it is possible to control, to know the volume, where it comes from and where it is going. Everything is monitored and auditable. The blockchain itself is made for this. However, it comes to be part of and not to replace existing payment methods,” he concluded.
