GMB – Tell us about this important moment for Embralote, which has just entered the lottery market in Paraíba.
Eduardo Paiva – First, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to be here talking to you and to praise this impressive fair. Everyone is praising and Brazil deserved something of this level. We are very happy, at the same time, to launch something so important in the lottery market after the STF decision. We were contemplated with the instant lottery modality by Lotep – Lottery of the State of Paraíba. This market, from now on, tends to be very important and will bring many jobs and resources for the states to invest in social matters. In this case, the population of Paraíba, which will benefit greatly from this endeavor that Embralote was lucky enough to participate in.
Tell us more about this process. Will it be a physical or online instant lottery that the company will offer to Lotep?
Authorization allows us both physical and virtual lottery. In the virtual part, it can be done over the internet, with users interacting directly from their computers or cell phones, or through self-service terminals at the State Lottery points of sale. We have a contractual obligation to implement more than 1,000 terminals within a period of 180 days. It is a big challenge for us, but we are sure of the product we have and confident in the success of the operation in Paraíba.
There will be two modalities, one physical and the other virtual. How were the agreements with graphics and terminal suppliers for the online operation?
In the case of the physical lottery, we will start with a second step. On the first day of BiS SiGMA we launched the operation via the internet, on the website www.embralote.com.br, and we will soon begin operations in a physical environment, through video lottery terminals, the famous VLTs. And within 3 to 6 months we expect to start the instant paper lottery.
We will use good practices and bring in big companies that are already known for the technology and security that an instant lottery requires. There are many national and foreign companies that can provide us with this service, passing through the screening and authorization of the State of Paraíba.
And already preparing for other states?
For sure. We believe that the lottery market is very promising. This is the first and there are 26 more to come, with full interest in supporting this public lottery service. Brazil has great chances, not only at the federal level, but also at the state level, to prosper and make gambling a tool for transforming society and for everyone to see that this is good and everyone will win.
Does Embralote also intend to operate sports betting?
Yes. In the case of Paraíba, it was just the instant lottery, but in other states, as public notices and accreditation take place, we are fully interested in participating wherever it is economically viable. We are ready to offer both instant and fixed odds lotteries, numeric prediction lotteries and passive lotteries. It's a historic milestone and we're going to be a part of it.
