Brazil’s Vice-President meets Playtech CEO and signals support for gaming regulation

The Vice-President of Brazil, Geraldo Alckmin, met last week with Mor Weizer, CEO of Playtech. The meeting was coordinated by deputy Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE), leader of the party in the Chamber and active in regulation of the gambling sector and sports betting. According to reports, Alckmin made it clear that he was in favor of legalizing the activity.

"They believe that Brazil has everything to be the second market in the world. The investments in each complex of casinos in integrated resorts is more than US$ 1 billion. Japan will receive the first investment and it will be in order US$4 billion," Carreras told CNN.

The deputy reported that Alckmin heard the arguments and nodded positively to the regulation. “The vice-president said that he is in favor of it and that he will manage within the government to move forward with this,” he said.

The bill that regulates gambling was approved in the House, but is awaiting a vote in the Senate. There is no scheduled date for the vote, but there is expectation in the sector that there will be progress in the second half of this year.
