Ceará Public Ministry judges action for alleged match-fixing in 2022 state’s championship

The Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of Ceará filed a criminal case against a player and a manager of the football club Crato for alleged manipulation of results in the 2022 Cearense Championship. The complaint is the result of the so-called ‘Operação Aposta Certa’, which investigated the conduct of alleged criminals, motivated by obtaining a certain result on betting sites.

The Criminal Investigation Nucleus of the Public Ministry of Ceará is investigating possible manipulation of results in the 2022 Cearense Championship. The game that caught the attention of the authorities took place between Caucaia 3 X 1 Crato.

For this reason, Ceará's Public Prosecutor's Office filed a criminal lawsuit against a player and an official from Crato. The complaint is the result of the so-called “Operação Aposta Certa”, which investigated the conduct of alleged criminals, motivated by obtaining a certain result on betting sites.

The starting point of the investigation was game number 13, between Caucaia and Crato, which took place on January 18, 2022, with the result Caucaia 3 X 1 Crato. The leak of some audios, on social networks, which indicated conversations between players and managers of Crato Esporte Clube, demonstrated supposed facilitation for the defeat of the club and consequent victory of the opponent – Caucaia.

The names of the suspects who are under investigation by the Public Ministry of Ceará were not revealed.

NUINC had the help of the Núcleo de Defesa do Torcedor of the Public Ministry of the State of Ceará – NUDETOR and began investigations in March 2022, having requested precautionary measures, which aimed at lifting tax and bank secrecy, telephone and telematic data, as well as the suspension of the activities of those investigated.
