Caixa president confirms return of Lotex later this year to raise US$ 1 billion

The president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Rita Serrano, said this Thursday (17th) that the bank should have news in lotteries in the second half of this year. According to her, the institution should once again assume Lotex, known as ' raspadinha” (scratch card). The government's expectation, therefore, is to raise up to R$ 5 billion (US$ 1bn) with this modality.

Caixa president confirms return of Lotex later this year to raise US$ 1 billion

"We are preparing to return of Lotex to take over the instant lottery," said the executive in a press conference to comment on the bank's results in the second quarter.

Caixa operated the old Lotex until 2016, when the modality was extinguished by the government of Michel Temer. Since then, only the other types of lotteries have continued, with few changes in the Loterias CAIXA product mix.

The recreation of the lottery is a project of the economic team of the government of the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who plans to collect up to R$ 5 billion with the product.

Rita Serrano also said that Caixa wants to compete in other lottery modalities, but did not provide further details. What is speculated is that somehow Caixa intends to explore sports betting.

The Brazilian Federation of Lottery Companies (Febralot) has been moving towards agents starting to offer the product if Loterias CAIXA starts operating the fixed-quota lottery.
