Influencers recommend responsible gambling, criticize bill that bans sports betting disclosure

The bill that intends to prohibit the disclosure of sports betting, casinos in general, gambling or any activities related to betting by digital influencers and artists has received a lot of criticism. The Roma News portal spoke to influencers from Pará about the subject and the repercussions are negative.

According to Bill 3.915/2023, influencers and artists are responsible for ensuring that their content does not contain references or incentives to betting activities. The ban extends to publications, videos, lives, stories and any other form of communication with their audience.

Still according to the project, digital influencers and artists must promote content that is educational, positive and not harmful to the mental and financial health of their followers.

For influencer Karol Barbosa, banning is not the solution and what must be done are means for people to play responsibly on platforms. “There are risks in everything, in the same way as promoting miraculous products that frustrate many followers, there are people who promote serious platforms. I've played a few times without disclosing the platform and at that moment the money helped me, but I've lost too," she said.

“Law is law, if it is approved, those who publish gaming links will have to stop, but if the person is of legal age and wants to continue playing, continue playing,” opined influencer Paula Martins for Portal Roma News.

In the event of approval of the law, the influencer and/or artist who violates it will receive a fine starting from 2% of the income of those involved declared to the Federal Revenue in the previous year, up to 100%, as the case may be. In addition, influencers will have to inform about the negative consequences associated betting activities, such as financial risks and impacts on mental health, suspension of business activities for a period of up to 8 years, counting from the conviction and social networks and other online platforms must cooperate with the authorities in the inspection and removal of such content.

“I am not against gambling, as I know people who have been able to change their families' lives through the dissemination of these platforms. But I am also in favor of raising awareness of the use of people who consume platforms,” commented influencer Biel Castillo.

“Playing is not the problem, nor is publicizing either, but there must be an awareness of responsibility on the part of promoters and influencers who today represent major betting sites,” he concluded.

One of the influencers from Belém who publishes gaming links is businesswoman Noelle Araújo. Sought by Portal Roma News, the influencer only said that "if I don't disclose it, I'll keep playing, it won't be banned."

Another influencer from the capital of Pará who promotes the activity and teaches how to play is Karine Gemaque, who claims in her networks that she has already earned more than R$ 230 thousand (US$ 46,100) in gaming.

“I think the influencer should disclose, however, he should also warn about the risks and each person decides for himself whether to play or not. I value the truth and always warn that just as we can win, we also run the risk of losing. But in addition to spreading the word, I also try to help my followers to win and that helps in a positive way,” said Karine.
