According to the statement released by Twitch on social media regarding the banning of Blaze and Gamdom broadcasts, the company said that the purpose of the decision is to protect the community, address "predatory behavior" and make the platform safer.
In addition, Twitch also revealed that after banning broadcasts from gambling sites from October 2022, it had an approximately 75% drop in gambling views.
“This means that the change has had an immediate impact and our community is better protected from scams and related harm,” the company said.
“Since then, we've seen some new trends and are updating our list of banned sites to better protect our community. It is important that the policy continues to prevent harm in a meaningful way.”
This decision comes about ten months after Twitch banned all broadcasts from gambling sites on the platform, specifically games such as roulette, dice, slot machines and the like. Since then, the ban has been maintained and only activities such as sports betting, fantasy sports and poker are still allowed.
