CPI on match-fixing to summon Lucas Paquetá to talk about result manipulation complaint

The Parliamentary Commission of Investigation (CPI) into match-fixing rapporteur, Felipe Carreras, published on his social networks this weekend that he will file a request for the call-up of Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paquetá, West Ham player, after suspected involvement of family members with sports betting.

"The CPI of football manipulation is aware of the suspected involvement of the player Paquetá with a sports betting scheme. We will join efforts with the English football federation so that the investigation is fast and responsible. I will present a request to summon him to the commission," wrote the deputy on his profile on X (Twitter).

According to the g1 news outlet, Carreras also said that he intends to talk to the president of the CPI, Julio Arcoverde, so that the request can be voted on Tuesday (22nd), the day on which the Commission will hear the presidents from the CBF Arbitration Commission, Wilson Seneme, and from the National Association of Football Referees, Salmo Valentim da Silva.

The English Football Association (FA) is investigating bets made on accounts of people close to Paquetá. Bets would have been placed on a match in which the Brazilian played. The matched bet predicted that he would take a yellow card in the Premier League game between West Ham and Aston Villa. And also that Luiz Henrique would be cautioned with a yellow card in the match between Real Betis (his team) and Villareal. Both players took yellow cards.

Due to this suspicion, Paquetá is stuck with a £70 million deal with Manchester City, in addition to being excluded from Fernando Diniz's first call-up to the Brazilian national team.
