B1Bet launches the “Copa B1Bet de Futebol de Várzea”

At the turn of the 19th century to the 20th, all football was lowland. But despite Serie A, Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, along with the so-called professional teams being the focus of the media and the general public, the floodplain football never ceased to exist. Thus, B1Bet, a sports betting house with only two years on the market, has just launched the “Copa B1Bet de Futebol de Várzea”.

Thanks to technological advances and the internet, today's floodplain football is being seen more, and communities can use social networks and influencers to show their culture and reality.

‘Futebol de várzea’ is a name given to amateur football typical of the state of São Paulo, as opposed to professional or semi-professional activity. The name ‘várzea’ is a reference to the type of field on which the matches were initially played, generally dirt fields, on the banks of rivers.

To strengthen this tradition, and encourage sports within Vila Nhocuné (a neighborhood on the outskirts of the city of São Paulo), B1Bet launched its own tournament: the “Copa B1Bet de Futebol de Várzea”.

“More than just financial support, this partnership represents our commitment to the local community and to promoting the sport among amateurs,” says José Vasconcelos, head of marketing at B1Bet.

The cup is divided into 3 categories: 50tão (players over 50 years old), 40Tao (players over 40 years old) and sport (no age specified), each with cash prizes, which add up to more than R$ 300,000 (US$ 60,300).

More than 96 teams are confirmed and properly seeded. The B1Bet cup games started last Saturday (19th), and are scheduled until the final on December 20th.

“Our commitment is to support lowland football, reinforcing its presence in the community, but also contributing to the promotion of an active and healthy lifestyle. The expectation is that the Cup will promote great emotions, and B1Bet is excited to be part of this moment,” completes the head of marketing.
