Boca Juniors or Racing de Avellaneda

Betsson is the first sponsor to reach the Copa Libertadores semifinals

Betsson, the leading global sports betting and gaming operator, is the first sponsor to guarantee its presence in the next phase of the Copa Libertadores. Boca Juniors and Racing de Avellaneda face each other for a place in the semifinals of the tournament. Both Argentine teams qualified for the quarterfinals, which take place since yesterday (23th), are sponsored by the Swedish company.

"The Boca Juniors and Racing sponsorships are part of Betsson's strategic plan, not just for Argentina, but for all of Latin America. From the beginning, we have seen their impact on our business, further accelerating our growth in the country," said Betsson's LatAm Commercial Director, Andrea Rossi.

"We started to feel this vibe as soon as the second phase draw was held in July in Asuncion," said Argentina Country Manager Maximiliano Bellio. "We are proud of the way both teams competed and regret that one of them has to be eliminated at this stage of the tournament," he added.

The strategic alliance between Betsson and Racing Club began a few months ago, in the Copa Libertadores, when Avellaneda's team defeated Aucas from Ecuador by 2-1, with goals from Nicolás Reniero and Gabriel Rojas, on May 23th, in fourth match of Group A.

Since that match, the team coached by Fernando Gago has played a total of 17 games with their new sponsor, winning eight (Aucas, Banfield, Vélez, Nublense, Colón, San Martín de Tucumán, Central Córdoba and Atlético Nacional), drawing six and losing just three. In those matches, ‘La Academia’ scored a total of 31 goals and conceded 17.

Meanwhile, the sponsorship with Boca also started during the Copa Libertadores, when Jorge Almirón's team thrashed Venezuela's Monagas 4-0, with goals from Marcelo Weingant, Valentín Barco and Luis Vázquez (twice). That match was played on June 29th, at La Bombonera stadium and was the last of Group F.

With Betsson as main sponsor, the ‘Xeneize’ team played a total of ten matches, winning seven (against Monagas, Sarmiento, Huracán, Gimnasia, Barracas Central, Newells and Independiente) and drawing three (Union and the two matches against Nacional from Uruguay). In those games, they scored a total of 18 goals and conceded just three in the three competitions they played in that period.
