Lottopar's decision

Paraná state in Brazil will not allow payment of regulated bets in cash or credit card

With a view to preventing currency evasion and money laundering, Lottopar will determine a series of rules to be adopted by sports betting operators authorized by the government of Paraná state. Among them, the acceptance of PIX and other electronic payment methods authorized by the Central Bank. Credit cards will not be accepted.

With the imminence of authorization for the first sports betting operators in the Brazilian state of Paraná, the local government reinforces the measures that must be adopted by companies in the prevention of illegal practices involving lottery games in the fixed-quota modality, the “bets” .

Among the measures is payment processing via PIX. Other payment methods are available and may incur additional costs. All electronic payment processing solutions offered to bettors, in addition to other activities related to the provision of payment services, must follow the rules established by the Central Bank of Brazil, thus aiming at security, ease and practicality in placing bets and receipts. of prizes.

In addition, the origin of the resource to be used as payment by the bettor will only be accepted from institutions regulated by the Central Bank, a body that has, among other attributions, the task of supervising financial institutions and stipulating guidelines for their operation.

The Central Bank is also responsible for carrying out supervision to ensure that all these rules are complied with. Its power even extends to Brazilian organizations that operate abroad.

The ban on the use of credit cards as a form of payment in sports betting has the main objective of protecting bettors from indebtedness and shielding accredited operators from possible fraud, such as contesting the purchase, for example, popularly known as "chargeback", where the gambler places the bet, receives the prize, but for the card operator the gambler says he does not recognize the purchase.

The president of Lottopar, Daniel Romanowski, emphasizes the importance of these measures: “We have to point out that the regulation of sports betting in the State aims at making lottery games a form of leisure and fun and that is why we are going to firmly supervise these operations to curb practices currency evasion and money laundering.”

According to Romanowski, the entity "will also have a management platform to carry out this inspection in accordance with the State decree that regulates fixed-quota betting and lottery operators will be obliged to inform Lottopar and the competent authorities of any suspicious activity."
