Federal deputy Mersinho Lucena wants to hear Leonardo Ferraz, director of marketing for the Football Federation of Rio de Janeiro. He must be summoned to give testimony to the CPI on the manipulation of football matches because he was cited in two different sessions “in the context of being aware of proposals between recruiters and players to simulate conduct and influence the results of betting on football,” according to the justification of the parliamentarian.
According to Lucena, Ferraz was quoted by Romarinho and Nino Paraíba, two players involved in the betting scheme revealed by the Public Ministry of Goiás (MP-GO), in the CPI sessions on June 20 and August 23, respectively.
He justified the request for summons in the application:
“In this sense, the testimony of FERJ's marketing director, Leonardo Ferraz, is essential to contribute to the advancement of research/investigations and, consequently, elucidation of the dynamics of involvement between players, recruiters and financiers, in the alleged frauds in the result of football matches, the central subject of the fact determined object of work of this Commission.”
The vote on the request should take place in the session this Wednesday (30), when the collegiate will also vote on invitations for the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, and Rômulo Reis, the CBF integrity officer, to be heard.
The CPI will also put to a vote the summons of Leonardo Cordeiro and Rodrigo Cordeiro, partners of bet365; Jorge Dias, president of Majosports; Edgar Lenzi, CEO of Betsul; René Santos Silva, managing partner of bet365; Marcelo Viana, partner of seibet; Andre Gelfi representative of Betsson; Neal Menashe, CEO of Super Group (owner of Betway); and Marcus Silva, director of Entain (owner of the Sportingbet website).
In addition, the members of the CPI will be able to vote on the call-ups of the players Lucas Paquetá and Luiz Henrique, whose applications were presented by the Commission's rapporteur, deputy Felipe Carreras.
