Loteria Mineira, as the autarchy is also known, is a highly profitable public institution that generates resources, in addition to having won the sympathy of the population of Minas Gerais. At 100 years old, the company has demonstrated a specialization in the lottery segment that is already a reference throughout Brazil. Entirely independent of state government funds, LEMG is one of the few bodies that, in addition to being autonomous, is a fundraising center for important social works.
Since its creation, Loteria Mineira has been an instrument for generating jobs, income and economic circulation for the State of Minas Gerais. By allocating part of the profit obtained from the games to the Government's social works, LEMG provided the inauguration of schools, kindergartens, hospitals, in addition to sanitation and urbanization works in Minas Gerais.
In the current management, Loteria Mineira has already allocated more than R$ 80 million (US$ 16.7m) to finance programs carried out by the Secretariats of Health, Social Development and the State Military Police.
Resources raised with the exploitation of lottery games by Loteria Mineira helped in facing the covid-19 pandemic in the state. A total of R$ 33 million (US$ 6.9m) were allocated to the State Health Fund (FES) to finance actions coordinated by the State Health Department.
The State Secretariat for Social Development (Sedese), in turn, executed R$ 12.5 million (US$ 2.6m) in social assistance programs with Lottery resources.
In addition, vehicles designated for intelligence activity, acquisition of 106 digital mobile radios and modernization of the PM's Data Processing Center were acquired.
Another example of a social program carried out with funds from the Loteria Mineira was “Liberdade em Ciclos”, where thirty custodians of the Minas Gerais prison system are producing sanitary napkins and disposable diapers for babies and the elderly in prison units.
The distribution of items is being free and intended for public schools and needy institutions. The project is a partnership between the Penitentiary Department of Minas Gerais and Loteria Mineira. The items are being produced at the Belo Horizonte Penitentiary and at the Prison of Timóteo, in the Vale do Rio Doce. The expectation is that 132,000 items per month will be produced within the two prison units.
Through the exploitation of lottery and similar games in the State, including electronic games through physical and digital means, Loteria Mineira has been a reference of good practices in the lottery market and a reference for other states that seek the implementation of their lotteries. Revenues characterize an important source of income to finance social grants, which are also part of the annual budget and ensure basic rights related to social assistance to the socially vulnerable, assisted by it.
Upon celebrating 100 years, Loteria Mineira states that “it will continue to seek to fulfill its values, through Social Responsibility, Transparency, Ethics and Excellence in the exploitation of Lottery and Similar Games.”
