Businessmen from Espírito Santo want casinos in the state

Entrepreneurs from the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo are waiting for progress in Congress on the project that legalizes gambling in the country so that the state can install a gaming venue. The bill that is in the Senate awaiting processing includes a unit for the Espírito Santo territory and the most suitable regions would be Guarapari and Pedra Azul.

Entrepreneurs from Espírito Santo are anxiously awaiting the processing of Bill 442/91, which has been stopped in the Senate for more than a year and a half, so that the State can evaluate the proposals and define the location for a casino to be installed in Espírito Santo.

Nerleo Caus, president of the Brazilian Association of the Hotel Industry of Espírito Santo (ABIH) says that casinos are a modern activity, with great potential to develop the state's economy.

“There are no holidays or holy days, it operates 24 hours a day. It creates jobs, income, revenue and brings tourists.”

Caus reinforces ABIH's position so that legalization happens as soon as possible. “I hope it will be released as soon as possible. We have everything to welcome this segment in the state, especially in the mountains, which despite having a smaller number of inhabitants, have a large flow of visitors,” he says.

For businessman and entrepreneur Lucas Izoton, all countries with a better quality of life have casinos. “The casino attracts a lot of people who have high resources. If it weren’t for the legislation, which has been in Congress for decades, we would have two suitable locations in Espírito Santo: Guarapari and Pedra Azul,” he states.

He highlights that the project makes a series of demands, both for the safety of people and for the protection of the business. “It’s something that can help the state a lot, especially in the most attractive tourist spots.” For him, despite being an expensive business, which requires millions, it is worth the investment.

Odeildo Ribeiro, president of the Federation of Tourism and Hospitality Workers of the State of Espírito Santo, says it is past time to legalize betting games.

“We have been discussing the legality or otherwise of casinos and betting houses for seven decades, a strong and necessary market.”

For him, Espírito Santo meets all the requirements, including strong supervision. “It is an excellent market for those who need a job because it reaches various levels, various professionals, generates income and boosts the market directly and indirectly,” he states.

Up to 10 thousand jobs

The discussion about whether or not to legalize casinos is old. In 1946, betting venues were banned and since then the country has lost billions of dollars, jobs and taxes. Despite the 77-year gap, one thing hasn't changed: the volume of jobs that casinos create.

Odeildo Ribeiro says that with the resumption of business, the state can create 8 thousand direct and indirect jobs.

“It should never have been banned, it is a business that exists all over the world. When it was at full steam, Brazil had 40 thousand people working in the area, that was back then, imagine how many jobs there would be today!” he asks.

For Lucas Izoton, an entrepreneur active in the market, casinos generate many jobs. “Between direct and indirect, it is estimated that 5 to 10 thousand jobs could be created in the state,” he comments.
