CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues should be heard twice in Congress this Wednesday

The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, is expected to spend the entire day at the National Congress this Wednesday (20). In addition to having already confirmed his presence at the CPI that investigates the manipulation of results in football, he was invited to participate in a public hearing at the Senate Sports Committee. If he confirms his presence, there will be two testimonials on the same topic.

Wednesday (20) promises excitement for the Brazilian Football Confederation, if the entity's president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, confirms participation in the public hearing of the Senate Sports Commission.

In the afternoon, he already informed the Parliamentary Commission of Investigation (CPI) into match-fixing that he will be present to be heard about the measures adopted by the CBF to prevent and combat manipulation of results, as well as clarifications on the current inspection and transparency processes.

He will also be asked about the contracts signed with Sportradar for sports monitoring and with Brax, regarding the sale of advertising spaces in the CBF championships.

Senate

The Senate Sports Committee is holding a public hearing this Wednesday (20), starting at 9:30 am, to discuss the manipulation of results in football and the president of the CBF was invited to provide information on the topic, as he will do in the afternoon at the CPI.

The public hearing was held at the request of Senator Romário (PL-RJ). Specifically mentioning football, he justified the proposition by warning of the frequent allegations of result manipulation in a scenario of expansion of the sports betting market.

“The need to guarantee transparency, legality and the fight against illicit practices leaves no doubt about the importance of promoting a broad and in-depth debate on these issues, involving representatives of sports institutions, government authorities, companies in the sector, experts and other interested parties,” assessed the senator.

The new Minister of Sports, André Fufuca, as well as judicial authorities were also invited to give testimony.

Other names called for the public hearing are:

  • José Francisco Manssur, responsible for carrying out sports betting regulation work at the Ministry of Finance
     
  • Andre Gelfi, president of the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming
     
  • Guilherme Buso, director of the Brazilian Association for the Defense of Sports Integrity (Abradie)
     
  • Rodrigo Alves, president of the Brazilian Sports Betting Association (Abraesp).
