Sports Commission holds public hearing on betting regulation with José Francisco Manssur

The Sports Committee of the Chamber of Deputies will hold a public hearing next Tuesday 12th to discuss the regulation of sports betting in Brazil. The presence of José Francisco Manssur, a special advisor at the Ministry of Finance who is at the forefront of the preparation of the entire process for the sector to enter definitively into formality, is confirmed.

The Sports Commission of the Chamber accepted the request 52/2023, from the federal deputy Maurício do Vôlei and will hold a public hearing to hear José Francisco Manssur, special advisor to the Ministry of Finance, to discuss the regulation of sports betting in Brazil.

In view of the growth in activity, Maurício do Vôlei justifies that “the Brazilian sports betting market has taken up a large part of local media as it is the central point of an investigation into match-fixing that affects the most popular and most loved sport in our country, which is football.”

A member of the Parliamentary Commission of Investigation (CPI) into match-fixing, the deputy understands that, in the imminence of the government forwarding to the National Congress the package of measures to regulate sports betting in Brazil, it is the right time to understand, from the person responsible for preparing the texts – José Francisco Manssur – the directions that regulation will give to the sector.

“The purpose of the public hearing with Mr. José Francisco Mansur, advisor to the Special Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance, is to understand the guidelines of the aforementioned Provisional Measure, its main points and general aspects of the rule,” states deputy Maurício do Vôlei.

“It is known that Mr. José Francisco Mansur is one of the main voices on this topic, having worked hard, together with his team, in drafting the standard that will bring more transparency, legal certainty and benefits to society,” he highlights.

The public hearing will take place next Tuesday 12th, starting at 10 am, directly from the Sports Commission room, in Annex II, Plenary 04 of the Chamber of Deputies.
