The expectation is that the majority of these new and planned ventures, as well as existing ones in hospitality, theme parks, integrated bars, and restaurants, will create more sales points for betting. In return, they will receive a share in revenue or merchandising from the betting companies, as these industry entities are popularly known. In this case, the share could range from 1% to 15% of the total establishment's revenue.
Fhoresp and IDT-CEMA also estimate that the US$ 20,5 billion to be earned by betting companies between 2024 and 2026 will generate US$ 2,46 billion in taxes. The law regulating the sector was sanctioned by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) after approval in the National Congress at the end of 2023. The legislation establishes a 12% collection rate on the revenue of betting companies.
According to projections from Fhoresp and IDT-CEMA, a significant portion of this percentage collected from betting companies may also increase the promotion of the country's tourism activities. The entities estimate that 28% of these US$ 2,46 billion in taxes generated should be allocated to the Ministry of Tourism.
In absolute numbers, the figures can reach US$ 690 million in the period, as highlighted by the executive director of Fhoresp, Edson Pinto. "This boost goes far beyond because it will generate more jobs not only in the lodging and out-of-home dining (restaurants) sectors but also in other productive segments. We are talking about a market that moves musicians, artists, infrastructure professionals, and transportation professionals, not to mention the commerce and services sectors, which will also be equally benefited."
