City Hall invests over US$ 200,000 in the project

Rio de Janeiro inaugurates Brazil's first public gamer arena

On Wednesday (17), the Rio de Janeiro City Hall inaugurated the Public Gamer Arena located at the Nave de Conhecimento in Engenhão, in the Northern Zone of the capital. The event was attended by Mayor Eduardo Paes, who outlined plans for new spaces dedicated to the world of eSports in the Marvelous City.

"We will create a gamer arena like this in every planning area of the city. We will multiply this. It's great that these young people are here, that the older folks are here, that the teams are here. In fact, we have to look at the youth as inspiration. We have to be a model, an example. So, let's stir up this market," said the Mayor Paes.

The Gamer Arena is located inside the Engenhão's Nave do Conhecimento in Engenho de Dentro, Northern Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The arena aims to promote inclusion, learning, and social transformation for visitors. The project was announced last May and is an initiative of the Municipal Secretariat of Science and Technology, in partnership with the Coordination of Games and eSports of the Secretary of the Civil House.

Events at the Public Gamer Arena

The municipal secretary of Science and Technology, Tatiana Roque, revealed details about the management of the arena. According to her, the space will be managed by the social organization Idaco.

"This will be the first test of the arena. Now we need to stress the arena in a good way, to know what we need to do to make it suitable for major events. We believe we have the device ready, we tested it last Sunday, and now we have to see the arena in practice," said the coordinator of games and eSports, Chandy Teixeira.

"I can say that there will be a CS event, but I cannot specify the size of this event and which teams will be in it," he concluded.

The Gamer Arena features a stage with capacity for two teams of up to five players, a broadcast studio, dressing rooms for participants, an area for the technical team, LED screen for broadcasting matches, grandstand, and a raised floor to highlight the competitors.
