Kambi co-founder Kristian Nylén to step down as CEO

Kambi Group co-founder Kristian Nylén has announced his decision to step down as CEO this year once a successor has been identified. “The decision to stand down from my position at the company after so many enjoyable years has been difficult, but one predominantly driven by my desire to spend more time with my young and growing family,” executive said.

Since co-founding Kambi with Anders Ström in 2010, Kristian Nylén has been at the helm of the Stockholm-listed sportsbook supplier.  The company has already initiated the search for a new CEO.

Meanwhile, Kambi’s nomination committee has put forward Nylén’s name for election to the board at the upcoming 2024 annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for May.

The decision to stand down from my position at Kambi after so many enjoyable years has been difficult, but one predominantly driven by my desire to spend more time with my young and growing family,” Nylén said.

As co-founder, my heart and professional allegiance remain firmly with Kambi, therefore, I am honoured to accept the nomination committee’s proposal to join the board".

Pending my election at the forthcoming AGM, I look forward to focusing more intensively on the strategic aspects of our business, however, my immediate attention remains on driving Kambi forward in my current role,” he added.

Ström, who assumed the position of board chair in November following the departure of Lars Stugemo, praised Nylén’s significant contributions: “Kristian’s role has been critical in positioning Kambi as a frontrunner in our sector".

His strategic foresight and unwavering commitment have been central to our many achievements over the years".

His potential transition to a board position reflects his enduring dedication to Kambi as both a founder and a major shareholder, while also ensuring a consistent and stable strategic course for the company,” he added.

Cherniak set to join board

The nomination committee also proposed the re-election of several board members, including Ström, Patrick Clase, Marlene Forsell, and Cecilia de Leeuw.

The committee also suggested that independent investor and adviser Benjie Cherniak joins the board.

Previously, Cherniak was a managing director at Scientific Games (now Light & Wonder) following the company’s acquisition of Don Best Sports.

Between 2007 and 2018, Cherniak was the principal and managing director of Don Best Sports.
