GMB – With the Brazilian market on the verge of entering a regulated model, what does IDnow have to offer the sports betting and online gaming sector?
Ronaldo Kos – This is an extremely important moment for the Brazilian market, precisely because of our company's DNA of working in regulated markets. With the new legislation that requires player KYC during onboarding, we bring all the technology we've applied in regulated markets in Europe and the rest of Latin America to Brazil.
With all the Digital ID capabilities, facial recognition, document verification, and document authentication, we provide the security the Brazilian market needs, offering protection for operators, players, the market, and society.
The market has already been using these tools for security reasons for the operator itself, and today this is an obligation. Are all of IDnow’s solutions compliant with Brazilian regulations?
100%. We have a solution that encompasses everything from verifying player data at the start of the process, including document scanning, selfie, liveness detection, Face Match, and then the player onboarding. Although this technology has been used by operators before, it was only applied at specific points in the flow. Previously, a CPF check was used just to confirm that the user was over 18 years old.
Today, by performing a CPF check and cross-referencing it with document data and document verification, it's possible to be sure that the person behind the computer is indeed who they claim to be. It’s no longer just during withdrawals or deposits, but at the moment they enter the operator's website. This will provide security to both the operator and the player.
These tools have always frustrated bettors due to being slow. Is IDnow’s process immediate and user-friendly?
Extremely user-friendly. Our tool onboards the player in 20 to 30 seconds, and the document scan is highly sensitive and quick, as is our liveness detection solution. I understand operators' concerns about the friction this might cause, but on the other hand, it ensures security, especially against fraud and individuals with improper intentions beyond just entertainment.
IDnow’s tool strikes a balance between security, low friction, and speed. It's important to remember that the most crucial aspect of this process—and I understand the operators' concerns about friction—is offering a light, user-friendly tool without compromising on security.
In any online operation, the end user wants speed and security. Are they already noticing this in betting platforms?
Not yet. They will start to notice it once the market is 100% legal. We understand that, at first, players might take longer to return to the site. They might think, "Oh, I don't want to do this." But this is where the government's efforts come in, ensuring that the gray, unregulated market doesn't thrive. Players will need to understand that if they don't want to identify themselves on site A, they'll have to do so on site B or C.
So, initially, bettors may be surprised by the identification process. They will realize that if they want to enjoy the regulated Brazilian market, they will have the peace of mind and security that they're looking for. They will need to identify themselves and go through the process only once.
IDnow has fantastic tools for this. Once that’s done, the bettor only needs their face to access all the services offered by the site. They can enter quickly, withdraw quickly via facial recognition. It's a one-time action, and from there, they can enjoy any site with ease.
Are these tools already being used by betting platforms that are IDnow clients?
Some of these platforms are not using them for registration yet; they are testing them, for example, in the withdrawal or deposit process. Not all have access to these tools yet, but EstrelaBet and Novibet, our clients, are starting to implement them, and soon others will begin to adapt to these new tools.
