Lottopar holds lecture on sports integrity to Paraná Clube youth teams

State Lotteries of Paraná (Lottopar) held a lecture to alert athletes from Paraná Clube about the risks of match-fixing in football. The meeting took place at Érton Coelho Queiroz stadium and brought together the team's youth teams. The content was produced by the agency based on its experience in regulation and also from the exchange of experiences with responsible gaming and sports integrity institutions.

Lottopar's Operations Director, Fabio Veiga, accompanied by the advisor to the Operations Director, Pablo Wosniacki, gave a talk on sports integrity to the players of the under-18 category of Paraná Clube this Monday (30).

The meeting took place at the Érton Coelho Queiroz Stadium, in the Vila Olímpica do Boqueirão, where the club's youth athletes are concentrated, and also brought together the nutritionist and coordinator of the Health and Performance Department, Rafael Morais Gonçalves, and the coordinator of the club's youth teams, Luciano Rossi.

The content was produced by the agency based on its experience in regulation and also on the exchange of experiences with the largest responsible gaming and sports integrity institutions in the world, with which Lottopar is associated.

The Union of Lotteries for Integrity in Sports (Ulis) is one of the largest sports monitoring companies in the world and one of its most recent projects was monitoring the Paris Olympics. Today, Lottopar is the only state lottery in Brazil that has access to this sports monitoring and with its expertise we can also provide educational guidance to Paraná Clube, which kindly opened its doors to us to talk to the athletes,” highlighted Veiga.

The lecture detailed the rules, regulations and legislation that prohibit athletes from participating in betting, with emphasis on Ordinance No. 67/2024 from Lottopar, which prohibits the registration and placing of bets on websites authorized by Lottopar by anyone who has or may have influence over the outcome of a sports-themed event.

This includes athletes participating in competitions organized by entities that are part of the National Sports System, people who hold positions as managers, coaches, trainers, referees and assistant referees in sports.

It is very important to raise awareness from the ground up, especially with the situations that are increasingly in the media, including renowned athletes being cited in investigations. With this initiative, we can avoid many situations, expose potential problems and, with that, foresee solutions,” highlighted Luciano Rossi, Cordinator of the Youth Categories of Paraná Clube.

In addition, the athletes present during the lecture were able to see some examples of soccer players who participated in bets and were punished. The reporting channels offered by Lottopar to report suspected cases of manipulation were also shown.

"Athletes should never gamble. And in Paraná, with the regulation of the sector, monitoring is even more intense. We have an ordinance that addresses this issue, a tool that monitors sporting events and reporting channels for suspected manipulation,” Veiga emphasized.

Wosniacki also stated that there are laws that punish those who choose to deviate from sporting integrity and that the highest football authority, FIFA, also prohibits players, referees, agents and other people involved in football from having any financial interest or direct or indirect participation in betting.

In Europe, the fine is heavy, around 100 thousand Swiss francs (US$ 116,000), as well as a ban on engaging in football-related activities for a period of three years, or even, in more serious cases, a ban on football-related activities,” he stated.

Another talk is scheduled for November, when Paraná Clube's professional football calendar will resume, this time with the main team's cast and coaching staff.
