At the event “Leadership Connections: Poker Edition”, held on Thursday (17) last week at the G4 Educação headquarters, Cavarge discussed how poker helps the corporate world in management, risk calculation and, mainly, decision-making, attitudes that the player is already accustomed to dealing with, under pressure scenarios.
“Just like in the business market, poker players need to evaluate incomplete information, calculate risks and keep their cool in critical moments. This probabilistic mindset is what makes poker an excellent platform for developing leaders and skilled professionals in various sectors,” explained the CEO of WPF.
Recently, Susquehanna International, a major investment firm based in Philadelphia, drew attention for its poker-focused training process. The company requires its new employees to play at least 100 hours of poker during a ten-week assessment program.
Anyone involved in the sport knows that the values of both areas go hand in hand. This is the case with Leonardo Cavarge. In addition to his experience as an executive at large companies, such as Itaú Unibanco and HSBC, Cavarge has also worked professionally in poker, earning more than R$2 million (US$ 350,000) in prizes. He became the first person from São Paulo to be crowned Brazilian poker champion.
“My success, both in poker and in the corporate world, is the result of the same knowledge, methods and discipline that I have always implemented in my career, whether as an executive or a player. In the lecture, I show how a sport like poker is essential for company leaders and their teams, as they will experience situations that require quick reactions, testing their emotional and psychological sides,” adds Cavarge.
The WPF, which was created with the mission of uniting the global poker community, eliminating barriers that obstruct the growth of the sport and achieving its recognition as a sport of the mind, today has more than 40 affiliated countries and is distributed among the five continents.
In addition to Leonardo's lecture, the “Leadership Connections” event also featured classes on the fundamentals of poker and a championship promoted by the H2 Club for the employees present.
