Government aims to establish technical criteria for integrity

Genius Sports enters into partnership with the SPA to combat match-fixing

This Tuesday (29), Genius Sports signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement with the Ministry of Finance to deliver its expertise in combating match-fixing to the Brazilian government. Through the partnership, the company will exchange cutting-edge data on suspected manipulation activities with a view to contributing to integrity in sports at a particularly important time, that of the regulation of the so-called ‘Bets’ in Brazil.

“Genius Sports has been very active in defending the integrity of Brazilian sports in recent years. We have carried out a series of integrity initiatives in Brazil, such as the creation of ABRADIE (Brazilian Sports Integrity Association) and the holding of workshops with several Brazilian sports entities aimed at educating key players in sports, such as athletes, coaches, referees and managers,” highlights Guilherme Buso, the company’s VP for Brazil.

"Now, this agreement with the Ministry of Finance is yet another initiative that further enhances the work of integrity within our country. Since the beginning of the work within the federal government, Genius Sports has made itself available to collaborate directly in the fight against match-fixing and we are very pleased to be part of this initiative by the Ministry,” he adds.

“Preserving integrity is a vital element for sports and for the entire business industry that surrounds it. And we at Genius Sports know this well and take this issue very seriously,” says Thiago Barbosa, the company’s head of integrity.

“The cooperation agreement signed today with the Ministry of Finance is a milestone in this commitment that Genius Sports has with sports and our permanent willingness to collaborate in consolidating a credible ecosystem for Brazilian sports, especially at a time when betting is being regulated in the country,” he adds.

“The fact is that combating match-fixing is something that is essential in Brazil and around the world and that can only be achieved through collaboration between public and private entities. We are certain that through the technological support and expertise that we will provide, we will be able to contribute to the success of the Brazilian federal government in this difficult fight,” concludes Barbosa.

The company has stood out in Brazil for activities that involve one of the pillars that Genius Sports most defends: education to contribute to sports integrity.

So much so that in the last few months alone, Genius Sports has held integrity workshops with clubs and sports entities to educate athletes, coaching staff and managers on the best way to combat illegal practices in sports.

The meetings were held with:

- Botafogo (professional and youth teams)

- Athletico PR (professional and youth teams)

- National Basketball League

- Women's Basketball League

- National Futsal League

To top it off, Genius Sports hosted the 3rd Brazilian Sports Integrity Summit, which took place at the Football Museum at Pacaembu Stadium in São Paulo.
