Wynn Resorts granted first UAE gaming licence for Al Marjan Island project

Wynn Resorts has been awarded the first commercial gaming operator’s licence in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by the country’s General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority. The Wynn Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah is a joint venture between affiliates of Wynn Resorts, Marjan and RAK Hospitality Holding.

Wynn stated: “Wynn Resorts thanks the GCGRA for the confidence and trust the license grant signifies and is proud to be the recipient of the first commercial gaming facility license in the UAE. We are underway with the construction of our resort in Ras Al Khaimah and look forward to being a key partner in the development of its tourism economy.”

In September 2023, the UAE announced the formation of a new commercial gaming authority called the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) which has been assigned exclusive jurisdiction to regulate, license, and supervise all commercial gaming activities and facilities at a national level, in the UAE.

Wynn Resorts has stated it will hold an Analyst & Investor Update Meeting to discuss the Wynn Al Marjan Island project, which is currently under construction. The event will take place on October 8, 2024, at Wynn Las Vegas. The company said in August that it had invested US$514m so far in the project. The resort is expected to open in 2027.

Wynn Al Marjan Island is to offer 1,500 rooms, suites and villas, the UAE’s first casino, 20+ dining and lounge experiences, a spa and wellness experiences, a high-end shopping esplanade, events centre, theatre and more.
