‘Bets’ launch campaign against the use of betting sites by children

The National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) is running the awareness campaign “Betting is not for children” from this Wednesday (9) until Saturday (12). The idea is to combat the use of platforms by minors in Brazil. Although registration of this age group is already prohibited on ‘Bets’ – as operators are called in the country-, the idea is to make parents and other guardians aware not to allow children to access using adults' CPFs.

Law 14,790/2023 and Ordinance No. 1,231 of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA), of the Ministry of Finance, already prohibit betting sites from allowing the registration of minors under 18 years of age. However, facial recognition will only be mandatory to access them starting January 1st. In addition, thousands of sites that have not applied for a federal license and do not intend to do so are still operating in the country, leaving children exposed.

In this sense, the ANJL campaign aims to raise awareness among adults and reaffirm to the country the industry's commitment to not allowing access to children. "Until Saturday, Children's Day, ANJL's social networks will communicate to everyone – market, government, parents and other guardians – that betting houses are completely against the entry of children and adolescents into their platforms," says Plínio Lemos Jorge, president of ANJL.

For example, one of the pieces that will be published on both the organization's Instagram and LinkedIn pages says that "Gambling is a form of entertainment for adults. It requires financial education and control."

Leonardo Benites, ANJL's Communications Director, who has worked in advertising for the gambling industry for years, believes it is important for players in the sector to also convey the same message.

“Serious betting houses that are submitting to regulation have no interest in children. But we all need to be aware of those that do not comply and will continue to do so with the legislation on this subject and protect children and adolescents,” said Benites.

Launched in March 2023, the National Association of Games and Lotteries defends the interests of its members, the sector and responsible and honest gaming, always guided by the promotion of sports, the safety of bets and the contribution to the country's economic development.

Among its members are galera.bet/Playtech, Big Brazil, F12, PagBet, Betnacional, Mr. Jack, Parimatch, BetFast, Aposta Ganha, Liderança Capitalização, Z.ro Bank, Propane, Paag, Clear Sale, BetBox tv, StarsPay, 1xBet and PG Soft.
