The minister said that he can adopt some legal measures to protect the most vulnerable Brazilian population, which suffers the impacts of online betting.
“The problems that were raised here, related to poor communities, mental health problems and other serious problems that were highlighted, lead us to believe that this trial must be urgent,” said the minister.
The STF will hold a two-day public hearing to discuss the impacts of online gambling in the country. According to the minister, the positions presented by various parties during the hearing reinforce the need for adjustments to current legislation.
“We will assess whether there will be a need for so-called legal measures before the judgment on the merits,” he said.
After the public hearing, scheduled for this Tuesday (12), the minister said that he intends to talk to representatives of the Executive and Legislative branches before making any decision on the matter.
