The panel "Sports betting in Brazil: paths to integrity and efficient regulation" also featured the integrity consultant of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), Paulo Schmitt, and the undersecretary of monitoring and inspection of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance (SPA-MF), Fabio Macorin.
Since the beginning of its operations in 2022, H2bet has been working with the best practices in the market. For Ueltom Lima, "sports integrity and responsible gaming are fundamental pillars".
“Those who are not involved in the market may have the impression that it would be better for this market if it were not regulated and operated freely. But that is not true. Sports integrity and responsible gaming are fundamental pillars for a mature, sustainable and long-term market,” said Ueltom Lima.
During the panel, the CEO of Grupo H2 also said that the sports betting market must be seen as entertainment, and not a way for people to earn extra income.
“The lack of regulation allowed many people to sell the idea that people could make money with it. You have to do it thinking you are having fun. Instead of going to the movies or going out to dinner, you decided to gamble,” he said.
“And all of this, within your financial reality. There is no strategy, there is no sure way to know when you will win, and there were many people talking about this on the internet. From this point of view, regulation is essential to ensure that advertising makes it clear that it is about fun and entertainment, and that people do not misuse it,” concluded Lima.
H2bet is on the list of fixed-odds betting sites that can operate in Brazil, according to Ordinance No. 1,475/2024 of the Secretariat for Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance (SPA-MF). The authorization obtained by H2bet also includes SeuBet, a company acquired by the H2 Group in August.
