Digital influencers are seen as key players in this scheme, lending an appearance of legitimacy to fraudulent practices.
The Minister of Sports, André Fufuca, highlighted that “thousands of Brazilians, deceived by promises of easy money, end up being victims of fraud.”
He emphasized the need to regulate sports betting to ensure transparency and security for the population.
The research also suggests the existence of a parallel market, where influencers, advertisers and developers benefit financially.
The National Secretariat of Sports Betting reported that the websites promoted by influencers receive money from bettors, but do not pay the promised prizes, deactivating the pages and disappearing with the investments.
Giovanni Rocco, Secretary of Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sports, warned that these websites hide on social networks to carry out scams.
He stated that the promises of quick gains are not bets, but rather crimes against the popular economy, deceiving people who seek to supplement their income.
