Of the 168 requests on the agenda, 79 are requests for summons (full list here). The rapporteur of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI), Senator Soraya Thronicke (Podemos-MS), is one of those who want to hear from the artists.
"Their participation is essential to understand how influential figures help expand the betting market and whether they are aware of the potential economic and social harm this activity may cause,” argues Soraya.
The summons may also extend to entrepreneurs under investigation for money laundering. Senator Izalci Lucas (PL-DF) is requesting the summoning of Deolane Bezerra in this context. She was arrested in September during Operation Integration, conducted by the Civil Police of Pernambuco, which investigates a money laundering scheme involving illegal gambling. The senator suggests that the influencer testify as a witness.
"Deolane can clarify how influencers have been used by betting platforms to attract consumers. She can also provide details about the network of influencers that promoted platforms under investigation," justifies Izalci.
Deolane's mother, Solange Alves Bezerra, and the influencer's lawyer, Adélia Soares, may also be called to testify. Solange was arrested alongside her daughter during Operation Integration, but both were released by court order.
Authorities
Another set of requests proposes the testimony of public authorities. Two of them call for the summoning of the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, and the Attorney General of the Union, Jorge Messias.
Parliamentarians may also vote on an invitation to the President of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, and the summoning of the Director-General of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues. The list of possible summonees also includes the presidents of the Financial Activities Control Council (Coaf), Ricardo Liáo, and the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade), Alexandre Cordeiro Macedo.
Information
The ‘Bets’ CPI may also vote on 57 requests for information, including requests to Coaf for 37 financial intelligence reports (RIFs). These documents may identify operations with indications of criminal activity. Among the targets are individuals and companies linked to online betting and payment platforms.
The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry of ‘Bets’ was established on November 12 to investigate the influence of online betting on Brazilian household budgets and potential associations with criminal organizations. The committee's work will continue until April of next year. The president is Senator Dr. Hiran (PP-RR).
