Third list of illegal domains

Finance requests blocking more than 1,800 ‘Bets’ reaching 5,200 already banned in Brazil

In less than 40 days, the Ministry of Finance has ordered the ban of 5,200 betting sites. The Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) of the department sent this Tuesday (19) to Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) the third list of domains for blocking access, with 1,800 new ‘Bets’ – as operators are called in Brazil - that will be blocked in the country.

The first list was sent on October 11, with 2,040 sites. The second, on October 31, contained more than 1,400.

The blocking orders are sent to approximately 20,000 telecommunications companies that provide internet signal in Brazil. Each of them must take technical measures, and Anatel monitors compliance with the order to ensure that the blocking is carried out effectively.

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Finance released a list, later updated, of 'Bets' that could continue to operate in the country. This is a temporary authorization, valid until December of this year, while the analysis procedures for the granting are being carried out.

The list is made up of companies that requested authorization from the federal government by September 17 to operate betting sites in Brazil and comply with bureaucratic requirements for registration.

The Finance intends to conclude the final analysis process of the first requests received by December, to verify which betting companies comply with all the legal requirements of the more than ten SPA doors that regulate the activity.

As of January 1, 2025, only companies authorized by the department will be able to offer bets nationwide.

Companies authorized to operate until December will also be monitored, since they are in a probationary period, while they await all the documentation to be proven to conclude the process.

Companies that violate any law in force in Brazil — including the Consumer Defense Code and the Child and Adolescent Statute — run the risk of not obtaining the authorization to operate next year.
