For Senate president it was a mistake legalizing sports betting before land-based casinos in Brazil

The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, said that 'it was a mistake in not legalizing gambling in Brazil, in favor of approving sports betting that brought casinos into people's homes.' For him, land-based establishments, which generate jobs and tourism, should have been authorized before sports betting. 'The potential addiction that websites produce needs to be combated by the State,' he added.

Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) spoke out in an interview with senators Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO) and Leila Barros (PDT-DF), on the PODK Liberados podcast, broadcast on RedeTV! and YouTube on Sunday (24) night.

"Many people are losing control, becoming addicted to gambling. This needs to be addressed by the Brazilian State," assessed the president of the Senate.

"There was a mistake in national policy by not legalizing gambling in Brazil, by preferring to approve sports betting that brought the casino inside people's homes," he said.

Regarding the manipulation of sports results, especially in football, he also highlighted the need to prevent the end of sports, which he considers a "national asset."

"I am a supporter of the thesis that, even with these ideas, if we do not resolve these sports bets, we need to consider banning them," said Pacheco. "It is a long-running discussion, but we need to do something. We need to act urgently on this issue, with limitations to ward off these evils. I consider this to be a major challenge that we face, as is deciding whether or not to legalize it."

On several occasions, the President of the Senate has expressed his support for the approval of Bill 2234/2022, which legalizes casinos, bingo halls and jogo do bicho in Brazil. The bill has already been approved by the most important committee in the House, the Constitution and Justice Committee, and is awaiting his decision before going to the Plenary.

According to Senator Irajá (PSD-TO), who reported on Bill 2234/2022, the bill has already been through the committees and is ready for voting. According to him, President Rodrigo Pacheco has already expressed interest in putting it to the Plenary this year and is certain that it will be approved.
