Pernambuco Public Prosecutor's Office requests archiving of investigation against Esportes da Sorte

In a decision released this Monday (25), the Public Prosecutor's Office (MPPE) of Pernambuco states that the activities of Esportes da Sorte are lawful and requests partial archiving of the investigation against the company. The MPPE also asked the archiving of part of the investigation involving singer Gusttavo Lima and José André da Rocha Neto, owner of the company VaideBet, former sponsor of Corinthians.

One of the sections of the decision states that "the Public Prosecutor's Office of Pernambuco requests the CLOSING of the investigation into conduct deemed to be a crime of money laundering, which has as a prior criminal offense the indication of the practice of sports betting and online gaming promoted by Esportes da Sorte, due to lack of just cause for the exercise of criminal action, due to the unethical nature of the conduct."

The decision confirms that the activities of Esportes da Sorte, owned by Darwin Henrique da Silva Filho, are lawful and requested partial closure of the investigation against the company.

The MPPE also requested that part of the investigation involving singer Gusttavo Lima and José André da Rocha Neto, owner of the company VaideBet, a former sponsor of Corinthians, be shelved.

The police are investigating possible criminal actions involved in the hiring of digital influencers by ‘Bets’, as online betting house are called in Brazil.

The request for shelving is based on the regulation of online betting, which, in the MP's understanding, eliminates the evidence of money laundering for which the singer was being investigated.

According to prosecutor Mariana Pessoa de Melo Vila Nova, there is no evidence that the singer or the businessman committed a crime. José André da Rocha Neto's wife, Aislla Rocha, also had her charges archived.
