Onésimo Diniz Moreira is nominated to become head of Loteria Mineira

Onésimo Diniz Moreira is the new general director of the Loteria do Estado de Minas Gerais. The former technical director of the Institute for the Development of the North and Northeast of Minas Gerais (Idene) was nominated by governor Romeu Zema (Novo) on Thursday (28). His name will have to be approved by the Legislative Assembly.

The new general director replaces Ronan Edgard Moreira, who resigned last Tuesday. Moreira handed over the position to Zema on the eve of the Minas Gerais Legislative Assembly (ALMG) voting on his nomination for the general directorship of the Lottery. The former general director had been questioned in December 2023.

Onésimo inherits from his predecessor a public tender for the concession of the online gambling operation for 26 years, valued at R$15.4 billion (US$2.57bn), which was suspended by the State Audit Court.

The new general director of the Loteria Mineira was part of the second echelon of Idene between April 2020 and December 2021. The technical directorship is one of the institute's four, which also includes the Planning, Management and Finance directorship, the regional directorship of the North of Minas Gerais and the regional directorship of the Vales.

Now, Zema will have to forward Onésimo's nomination to the ALMG for approval. The House will consider the name of the new general director of the Loteria Mineira after interviewing him. Until then, the former technical director will remain at the head of the agency as appointed.
