‘Bets’: 17 companies are notified to clarify bonuses and gaming restrictions

The Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) of Brazil, through the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon), notified 17 online betting companies to present detailed information about advertising, bonuses and restrictions on access by minors and vulnerable people. The so-called ‘Bets’ have 10 days to comply with the procedure.

Online gambling has been growing, and with it, reports of gambling addiction. Since they offer bonuses to gamblers, the investigation is based on the fact that this advantage encourages players to bet more and goes against the law.

The aim of the measure is to prevent pathological gambling, especially among minors and vulnerable consumers.

The companies notified must explain how the bonuses work and how they operate to prevent children and adolescents from participating in gambling, as well as consumers at risk.

Within the stipulated period, all companies will have to explain their advertising policies, monitoring and debt prevention systems and how blocking works (if any) to prevent bets considered irresponsible for these audiences.

The Consumer Protection Code establishes that consumer protection is a fundamental principle of the economic order and transparency in consumer relations.

“It is essential that betting companies have a clear communication policy about the risks associated with gambling. The consumer has the right to make informed decisions, informed about the real chances of winning and the risks,” ays the director of the Consumer Protection Department, Vitor Hugo do Amaral.
