“Agility in regulation in Brazil encourages BMM to install a laboratory in the country soon”

Susana Campana, VP of online sales at BMM, highlights the company's success and growth in Latin America, with expansion plans in Brazil, including the “imminent” opening of a laboratory in the country. In an exclusive interview with GMB, she assured that the new unit will speed up certification processes and welcomed the agility of the regulatory entity: “the process faces initial challenges, but Brazil has responded quickly and carefully to our doubts and concerns.”

GMB – How is BMM’s business doing in Latin America?
Susana Campana – We are extremely pleased with the reception BMM Testlabs has received in the Latin American market, not only in Brazil but also in Peru, Colombia, and other regulated Latin American jurisdictions where we operate.

Is business growing increasingly in the region?
Yes, absolutely. Latin America is a highly dynamic market with exponential growth. We are supporting not only already-regulated countries but also entities in their efforts to regulate jurisdictions, guiding them toward becoming regulated markets in an agile and secure way.

In Brazil, you were one of the first laboratories approved by the Ministry of Finance. What does this represent for BMM as a corporation?
BMM is the oldest certification lab in the world, with over 40 years of history, so it’s no surprise that we were among the first laboratories authorized in Brazil. As I mentioned, the reception we’re receiving is fantastic, and we’re supporting and advising many operators and gaming suppliers in the region to enter this promising new market quickly and securely.

What are BMM’s plans for the Brazilian market, which officially launches on January 1?
As mentioned in other interviews, BMM plans to establish a new lab in Brazil. We already have local representatives in the region, and they are working quickly to set up the lab in Brazil, expediting certification processes as much as possible.

Additionally, we will continue to support and guide both regulators and companies throughout the first year of the Brazilian market’s operation, as the first year in a new sector often requires adjustments and modifications. We’ll be there to support everyone through this period.

Do you face challenges with regulations in Brazil, or is it straightforward for BMM, given its global presence?
Any new regulation comes with some challenges. I think Brazil has been very agile and thorough in defining its new regulations. Of course, as many have noted, there are certain questions or points that need clarification from the regulatory body, but the response has been quick.

We are raising our regulatory questions, and they are being answered promptly. Moreover, they share this information publicly with all involved parties on the regulation portal. Everything is moving forward, and if all goes well, we’ll start working with our clients in the Brazilian market on January 1 without issues.

Until the lab in Brazil is opened, from which of your labs worldwide will you operate?
The Brazilian lab will mainly focus on the Brazilian market but will also support the broader Latin American market and, if necessary, act as one of our 16 labs worldwide. We have labs in Peru, Europe, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Macau, among others. This will be an additional lab supporting the digital sector and possibly the physical sector once Brazil’s regulation is fully operational.

When will the BMM lab in Brazil be inaugurated?
The inauguration is imminent, though we don’t yet have an exact date. It will certainly be in 2025, but we don’t have a set date yet. We are progressing on this, but opening a lab requires very secure procedures and processes that we cannot overlook. We need to move forward safely but as swiftly as possible. I assure you it will be in 2025.
