Amid a tumultuous week due to the meeting of the presidents of the G20 parliaments in the National Congress, which officially begins this Wednesday (6), Rodrigo Pacheco found time for a quick press conference. In it, he stated that the CPI on 'bets' has not lost strength in the Senate and that it will be important to clarify facts involving possible irregularities in the activity.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee (CPI) was proposed by Senator Soraya Thronicke and, according to Pacheco, “it must be installed and start operating. I think it is a good measure to seek clarification and propose measures to limit and contain and improve discipline in relation to these bets,” he said, adding that “unfortunately, casinos were not approved in Brazil physically, but they became part of family life. In other words, this law (14.790) ended up placing casinos inside Brazilians’ homes.”
Regarding Bill 2.234, which legalizes casinos, bingo halls and jogo do bicho in Brazil, Rodrigo Pacheco stated that there is no impediment to it going to the Plenary.
The President of the Senate only added that the measure can only move forward if, at the same time, measures are advanced to strengthen the regulation of the betting sector.
In a recent interview with GMB, Senator Irajá, the Bill’s rapporteur in the Senate, stated that the vote on the bill will take place this year and that he is excited about its approval by the House.
“President Rodrigo Pacheco himself is convinced of the importance of this project for the country and of delivering this social and economic agenda, a new business environment for Brazilians at the beginning of next year,” Irajá told GMB.
