Executive chooses GMB for his first interview

Thomas Carvalhaes takes over as Stake’s country manager Brazil: “Regulated environment excites us”

Thomas Carvalhaes, one of the most experienced professionals in the iGaming sector in Brazil and worldwide, takes on a new challenge as country manager for Stake in the country. During the recent SBC Summit Latinoamerica, the executive chose GMB to confirm the news and give the first interview in his new role. “We are assembling a team and making plans to increase brand recognition and grow even more,” Thomas states.

GMB – We know you have news for the market, as you’re taking on the role of Country Manager Brazil for Stake. Tell us firsthand.
Thomas Carvalhaes – Yes, as for the news, after some time, I am returning to what I’ve always done, which is managing operations in the B2C aspect. I am taking on one of the largest brands globally, Stake. Leading this operation in Brazil is incredible.

We’re very excited about the regulated environment and everything happening in the Brazilian market, its growth, and how it’s establishing itself, even before regulation. I’m happy to represent a global giant in Brazil.

How is Stake positioned today in the Latin American market as a whole?
Stake is well-positioned. Brazil is Stake's third target market, with regulated presences already established in Colombia and Peru. So, we're building a team, and that process has already begun.

Additionally, we are officially on the list of the Betting Management System (Sigap) as one of the operators waiting for regulatory processing. In any case, expanding into other Latin American countries is also part of our future plans.

Are there significant growth plans for Brazil? Stake currently sponsors Juventude, but will you be looking for new clubs or actions in other sports to gain greater relevance?
This is a strategy we're defining. Besides Juventude, we also sponsor Pereira and have Drake as one of our global ambassadors. We’ll have discussions to see what we can explore within regulatory permissions. But the most important thing is understanding innovation.

Stake is known, even feared, for its innovation capacity. So, we will work hard on that. Brazil can certainly expect a brand that will enter the market strongly and innovatively.

How will Stake demonstrate this, and what will its distinguishing features be for its key audience, the players?
You know what I’ve been told about Stake? It’s a brand that’s appealing and stands out because it’s fun to watch. Users instantly connect with it. It’s not rigid or the same as everything else out there. That’s one of Stake’s unique qualities and one of its secret ingredients. We’ll leverage this a lot to strengthen brand recognition with our ambassadors and commercial partnerships. And the goal is always growth.

Can Brazil expect a lot from Stake?
Absolutely. Stake is committed to the Brazilian market. We have an exciting journey ahead. Remember that Stake is strong in eSports, which Brazilians love. Few betting brands have an eSports vertical as vast as Stake's. We will focus a lot on this vertical with our marketing partners.
