Atletico-MG will not renew with Betano, another bookmaker would pay close to US$10m

Atlético-MG will have a new master sponsor for the 2025 season receiving almost double the amount from the new partner. Betano, which has displayed its brand on the main space on ‘Galo's’ jersey since 2021, will be replaced by another bookmaker, whose name is still kept confidential. The information was initially released by Itatiaia. Under the current contract, the club receives R$18 million annually (US$3m), while the new deal establishes payment of R$60 million (US$9.8m).

The amount is unprecedented for the club and could place it in fourth place among the largest sponsorships in Brazilian football today, behind only Flamengo with Pixbet (R$105m / US$17.8m per year), Corinthians with Esportes da Sorte (R$103m /US$16.8m per year) and Palmeiras with Crefisa (R$81m / US$13.2m per season, which could reach R$120m / US$19.6m with bonuses).

Atlético has not confirmed the change of sponsor, but should make the announcement soon so that the new brand can be printed on the uniforms that will be used in the friendlies against Cruzeiro and Orlando City, on January 18 and 25, in the pre-season in Florida, in the United States.

The board of directors of Atlético and the current sponsor tried to renew the contract, but did not reach an agreement, mainly regarding the amount, as the club demanded a considerable increase in the amount to be received for the sponsorship.

Sponsor has occupied a prime spot on Atlético's jersey since 2021

Betano has occupied the most prominent spot on Atlético's jersey since January 2021, when it replaced BMG bank, which moved to another part of the uniform. Initially, the contract was for one year, with the option of an additional year. In 2022, the contract was renewed and, in February of this year, the contract was further expanded to include women's soccer and the MRV Arena.

At the time, Atlético CEO Bruno Muzzi spoke about the new contract with Betano: “It increased in value. It went from R$14 million to R$18 million (US$ 2.29m to US$ 2.95m), in fact. It included sponsorship of women's soccer and some properties, activations at the Arena. The correct number is this,” he said.
