Prior to the big game, the American Gaming Association predicted that a record US$23.1 billion would be wagered across the country. Betting houses in Nevada benefited from the fact that the Super Bowl was played in Las Vegas for the first time, attracting thousands of new visitors. Additionally, betting companies held special events in the city for their top customers.
Despite the impressive total amount wagered, it's important to note that casinos and sports betting operators retain only a small portion of that revenue. In Nevada, for example, casino winnings from the game were only US$6.8 million.
In addition to betting, broadcast and streaming figures for the Super Bowl also reached new highs. The American network CBS recorded 120 million viewers in the US across CBS and Paramount+ channels, setting a viewership record for the Paramount Global-owned streaming service. In total, the event reached 123.4 million viewers, making it the largest broadcast on a single network in history.
Prior to the game, research firm Eilers & Krejcik Gaming estimated that the industry would generate US$1.25 billion in revenue, with Nevada leading with a 13% share.
ince the Supreme Court allowed the expansion of sports betting beyond Nevada in 2018, the sports betting industry in the US has grown rapidly, with about 38 states and the District of Columbia now offering such bets.
