Football federations from southern Brazil join Sportradar against match-fixing

The football federations of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul signed a partnership with Sportradar to create an online platform focused on combating match-fixing. The objective is to educationally guide clubs and athletes against practices that are harmful to sport.

The joint project of the Paraná Football Federation (FPF), the Santa Catarina Football Federation (FCF) and the Gaúcha Football Federation (FGF) is to stimulate and encourage knowledge on a topic as sensitive as the manipulation of results in football.

Through an educational platform, developed by Sportradar, a leading global company and reference in sports technology solutions, players and professional football technical committees of clubs, managers, referees and courts will have access to videos and training on:

  • What is results manipulation;

  • How the betting market works;

  • Relations with organized crime;

  • How manipulators work;

  • What are the rules in Brazil and FIFA regarding betting;

  • The consequences for those who commit irregularities.

The three federations will monitor the training by controlling access for all users. At the end of the training, they must answer a questionnaire that qualifies them to receive a certificate.

Helio Cury Filho, president of the FPF, commented: “Our role as a federation is to provide a fair game free from any manipulation, and the education of those involved is part of this process. With this partnership we can instruct and contribute to ensuring that the show is stain-free.”

Rubens Angelotti, president of FCF, added: “This is a sensitive subject that requires constant special attention. Football is the sport we love and we want it to be played in a clean and fair way. This partnership will play an important role in increasing the knowledge of athletes and everyone involved in the game.”

Luciano Hocsman, president of the FGF, concluded: “This important issue has always received the full attention of the FGF. This project is extremely important as it aims not only to combat match manipulation, but also to address the educational issue of all parties involved in football.”

Match -fixing is a constant and growing threat throughout the world of sport. There are several important methods that can combat the damage of match manipulation, the first of which is to educate, therefore, the relevance of training among everyone in the football ecosystem.
