In an exclusive interview with GMB, Paulo Samia, CEO of UOL, reveals future plans, including differentiated products and a specific content page for sports betting, consolidating the brand as an informative leader in this segment in the Brazilian digital market. Focusing on complete coverage of championships and offering live odds, the platform seeks to accelerate engagement.


GMB - UOL has an ambitious project for the betting market. Why did you enter this segment?Paulo Samia - Thank you for being here and supporting this entire event, just as we are closely following this very strong sector of the economy. That's basically it; we realize that it's a niche that is increasingly attracting people's interest, who are looking for quality content. It's a segment that has been professionalizing a lot here in Brazil, especially with recent regulation. We understand that UOL, as a professional media outlet, with all its credibility, can contribute a lot in terms of visibility, information, and accuracy, which is what companies seek. Especially by participating with a responsible approach to gaming, promoting this type of content consciously, as we do in all our publications.

Without a doubt, it's one of the sectors that is growing the most in Brazilian advertising, and with various formats. All platforms are now promoting the sports betting segment and we, without wordplay, bet heavily that with regulation this sector will grow even more. And we want to be a trusted partner for companies that want to promote their brands, advertise, and mainly generate responsible content for all their clients, consumers, and partners.

And are the main championships already being offered for the betting market?

This way, we can target and know exactly who the target audience for this material is, which, like it or not, is adult content that must be targeted to people who can actually consume this type of information. This is all the differential. We have comprehensive coverage of all major championships, games, tournaments, and various sports with products differentiated by betting segments.

And what about live odds? Have they impacted the product well and brought benefits to partners?
Without a doubt. As there is much greater interaction with the audience when live odds are released, and at the same time, we have an immediate response in digital, partners increasingly seek this type of product. The goal is to accelerate growth, accelerate engagement, and first deposits. So, live betting has been the latest important and well-distributed bet.

 



You have a payment method, which is a virtual card, a tool that can be made available to this market, that’s right?
Within the group, we have several businesses, several solutions. One of the solutions of our group is a payment system, one of the largest in Brazil and, undoubtedly, we are already talking to the biggest players in the market to insert payment methods into this segment as well.

What news will come from UOL in the coming months for the betting segment?
More and more differentiated products, greater visibility. We are now working on producing a specific content page aimed at this category. Surely UOL is already and will increasingly be consolidated as the largest information channel for betting segment content in the Brazilian digital market.

And being part of a powerful group like Folha de S.Paulo, how does it view the betting project from an editorial point of view?
I think that all serious and professional media outlets, with quality, are closely watching the betting segment. Especially from our privileged position, in terms of informing and delivering this content in a responsible manner to the entire population, helping to spread this sector of the economy that will generate jobs, move the economy, circulate money, and increasingly bring money from abroad to Brazil.
