“Belatra already develops localized games for Brazil and wants to grow in this important market”

Belatra, with more than 30 years of experience in the area of land-based and online games, has been focusing its attention on Latin America as a whole and Brazil in particular. Its commercial director, Andrés Troelsen, gave an exclusive interview to GMB and highlighted that the company already has more than 100 games, some of them developed specifically for Brazil, such as the popular crash games. He says that Belatra has big plans with local partners to grow in the Brazilian market.

GMB - Belatra has a history of over 30 years in the market, starting with the land-based segment and now strong in the online sector. How was this migration progress?
Andrés Troelsen
- Belatra has been around for 30 years since its inception. We're a company with a lot of experience in the gaming industry. We started with land-based production of machines, with an international presence, and 25 years ago, we specialized in Latin America, developing machines for this market.

Twenty years ago, Belatra decided to focus on Latin America and set up an office with operations in Buenos Aires to serve the entire region, selling thousands of machines. Since 2015, Belatra started developing in the online industry, leveraging the experience from land-based and all its game design and music thematic development. Today we have 100 games - all proprietary - we don't make any copies, and now we develop between two and three new games per month.

Today we have an office in Buenos Aires where we have employees to serve the entire region, and we travel to Brazil every month, highly interested and giving absolute priority to the market in 2024. We already have clients working very well and maintaining an active presence at fairs throughout Latin America. We will be present this year at the main fairs in the region, and we think that being in Buenos Aires and speaking Portuguese and Spanish allows us to have a work team close to the clients.

Especially now with the opening of the market in Brazil, is this presence important?
It is true, as you say, we believe that in Brazil, the opportunities are huge at this moment. Brazil is currently experiencing exponential growth, it's the novelty of the regulated iGaming market in Latin America.

We consider it to be the most powerful market now, with growth, and where we can do many things. We intend to be at the height of this market. Therefore, we are close, traveling and developing customers. We want to give them a lot of attention and it is essential to present news and games every month. It is something useful and very important for industry lovers.

Is Belatra already close to the operators in Brazil and the aggregators who are placing their games and platforms in the country?
We are. As I mentioned, we have many clients throughout the region, both in physical and online casinos. And our aggregator partners help us reach more customers throughout Brazil. We have a development project for this year with many more clients and more aggregators, especially to serve the country.

And with localized games and themes from Brazil?
Our recent challenge has been to develop exclusive games for Brazil, which we are currently doing. And we have already launched some, especially crash games, which are very popular among Brazilian players.

Are crash games a trend of the moment or something permanent?
We believe that the crash gaming trend in Brazil is long-lasting and will be permanent, although it may vary in other Latin American markets, which have their own gaming preferences. The success of crash games in Brazil is very specific to the country. In the case of Argentina, Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, and Mexico, players have other tastes. In the case of Brazil, we think it's a trend that will stay forever.

What are Belatra's plans for Brazil when the regulation process is complete?
Our plans for Brazil are to advance in the market and continue supporting our clients in this process. We encourage the industry to work hard on the certification and regulation process. We will accompany our clients with certified games ready to meet the demands of all the markets where we operate. Basically, our philosophy is to work in partnership with our clients, being close and supporting them in the growth of the Brazilian market.
