80 clubs participate

Senate’s committee analyzes changes in the distribution of Timemania resources

After a public hearing scheduled for this Tuesday (26) at 10 am, the Senate's Economic Affairs Committee can vote on a bill that changes the rules for distributing resources from the Timemania lottery among Brazilian football clubs. The modality is made up of 80 teams and the resources are divided between those who participate and those who do not compete in series A, B and C of the Brasileirão without taking into account the vote as “heart team”.

According to Bill 3,723/2021, by senator Veneziano Vital do Rêgo, the distribution of resources arising from each draw will be proportional to the indication marked as "heart team" by the bettors.

Currently, the distribution of Timemania resources favors clubs competing in series A, B and C of Brazilian football, which divide 22% of the proceeds among themselves.

The other Timemania teams, which do not compete in series A, B or C, divide between themselves only 11% of the revenue, together with the teams in series A, B and C, and without taking into account the vote as "team of the heart". Timemania is made up of 80 clubs.

According to Veneziano, the current criteria harms teams like Treze, from Paraíba, which despite being 19th among the most voted "heart team", earns less as they almost never play in series A, B or C of the Brazilian Championship. The rapporteur, senator Rodrigo Cunha, presented a favorable opinion to the proposal.

The matter had already been previously analyzed by the Senate's Sports Committee (CEsp), with senator Romário's report having been approved at the time.

In addition to the redistribution of the amounts collected, Bill 3,723 also determines that Caixa Econômica Federal must reopen, every two years, the process of clubs joining Timemania.
